Photography has been my passion since I was 13 years old. I spent most of my high school career photographing bands within the Richmond, VA scene. I went on to get my BFA in photography from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts, where I graduated cum laude. After graduation in 2006 I moved to Philadelphia and opened Crystal Neilson Photography but after a year of missing my family I quickly moved back to Virginia. I purchased a farm in Goochland, VA and since then my business has flourished.

In that fall of 2007 I discovered my love of teaching and after a year of working toward that goal I started teaching high school art in the fall of 2008. With the new addition to my career I have made the decision to only book two weddings a month during the school year. This will allow me the time to give my clients the service they deserve.

My goal is to provide my couples with a true documentation of their wedding day. I have a journalistic feel to my work and the only time I ask people to pose is during the formal shots (which I do as many or as few as the couple wants). I do my best to not interrupt or interfere with events of the wedding. In 2008, I added a second photographer (my husband, another VCU photo student) to the company to cover the event even better then before. This allows there to be a photographer with the bride during preparations and one with the groom, and two different views throughout the rest of the event.
